Litanies

for piano
Instrumentation:
pf
Duration:
3'

Litanies is a short piano work written during my studies as an undergraduate. The piece combines two harmonic worlds juxtaposed as musical blocks: the first resembles the language of jazz pianists Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans during the early to mid-1960s, and the second is closer to that of Olivier Messiaen’s Petites Esquisses D’Oiseaux. Both strands are drawn together, however, by common thematic material, and are gradually interwoven until a kind of synthesis of both is reached at the end of the piece.
