This Face Now Here is a musical prayer/ meditation for three people, begining with the pace of slow breathing. As the piece moves on, disruptions and fleeting emotions begin to appear, warping the breath until particular narratives take hold, including scenes which unfold linearily as well as pointillistically. The title represents less of a meaningful phrase and more of a collection of four separate words which invite an appreciation of the present. Chorale textures dominate the work, with a ghostly reference to almost-Baroque harmonies in D minor at the end.
This Face Now Here was commissioned by Chen Halevi in 2016. The work was revised in 2023.
World premiere was given by Wei-Hsuan Yen, Onyu Kim, and Junga Lee at the WINDHOEK Festival at Hf M Trossingen on March 27, 2024.
